Local Things to Do:
Must See:
- Shelly Beach - make sure you have a swim here. The local totem is the ocean and it is SO energising! Look out for sea turtles.
- The Vwall - lookout for dolphins, seen almost daily by locals. Also count how many 'Where's Wally' you find on the painted rocks! We've found a maximum of 36 so far!
- Captain Cook Lookout - lookout for whales heading up and down the coast!
- Pilot Lookout - wow!
- Hire a kayak from Nambucca Boatshed & Cafe and enjoy exploring the river (away from the rivers mouth!)
- Pop into the Divine Soul Centre and enjoy some beautiful spiritual goodies.
- Jacks Ridge Mountain Bike Park - many trails to enjoy for the two wheel enthusiasts.
- Take a walk on the board-walk from Giinagay Way visitors centre east along Riverside drive, all the way to the Vwall. Some tracks over the mangroves, others along easy walk pathways.

For those bringing kids:
- Bowraville playground - It is 15 minutes inland, but is one of the best playgrounds for kids aged 2-14. Surrounded by beautiful mountains, it includes flying fox, slides, swings, spins, drums, climbing ropes, skate-park, rock climbing, basketball court, bmx track and a nice quite place for parents to sit and relax. Bring coffee with you.
- Bellwood park - another nice playground for kids aged 2 - 10. Includes climbing, swinging, small rock wall, workout, sea-saw, monkey bars, fireman’s pole, large river swimming pool with pontoon, table tennis, basketball court, grassed picnic areas.
- Enjoy the local cinema at the Nambucca Plaza.
- There are many horse whispering experiences.
- Surf's up at Scotts Head or if your little people like it more gentle, try the river side on the Vwall. Be careful not to get caught up with the tide. It's strong!

Don't:
- Don't underestimate the current at the vwall river. Many a swimmer has nearly drowned when trying to swim out to the island at the tidal peaks.
- Go in the rivers without reef shoes, occasionally, you'll come across an oyster and they are super sharp.
- Swim in the river at Valla Beach. The oysters there are filled with nasty bacteria that can make you sick.
- Since the pandemic, there is some element of increased crime in most country towns. Lock your doors and do all the normal things you would ordinarily do to secure yourself and your belongings.
- Don't light fires. Especially in Summer. They catch on quick!
- Assume what kind of weather it will be. We have had temperatures drop 20 degrees from one day to the next. Bring layered clothing.
- Forget your medicines. Most places like chemists are not open on the weekends.
- Assume there is a department store. The nearest big shopping centre is 50kms away.
